The Last Train

The Platform

The last train waits beneath the station clock. It is 6 o'clock. The clock's final chime fades as the conductor prepares to close the doors.

A sudden gust sends an abandoned newspaper tumbling along the platform.

Steam drifts across the platform, blurring the lamps and the figures moving beside the carriages. The guard stands by an open door, checking his watch.

A woman in a red coat sits alone on a bench. She looks directly at you. “You're late, Alex,” she says, glancing at the battered suitcase beside her.
